Cheap Flights Advice...

Smaller Aiports

As an example, if you bought airline tickets to fly from London Heathrow to Charles De Gaul in Paris, you will be taking off from the largest airport in the UK and landing at the largest airport in France. However, if you booked your flight out of one of the smaller airports around London such as Luton (with direct links from London by train, bus & taxi), you could make savings of up to £50 per passenger!

Fly Budget Airlines

Savings on flights can be quite large if you're comparing budget airlines with main airlines and major airports - do your research on the budget airlines. For example, if you book your flight far enough in advance you can fly to major destinations in Europe on Ryan Air or Easy Jet for half the price of the major airlines. Most of the budget airlines will fly to and from the smaller airports either in or near the main city centres, and due to the number of transport links at modern airports, transfers to major destinations are easy.

Don't Buy Direct Flights

Another tried and tested way to find cheap flights, especially on long haul, is to book flights that are not direct. Airlines are aware that most travellers would prefer to fly direct to their destination and offer great deals on non-direct flights as a result. Flights from London Heathrow to popular holiday desintations in the United States, which include a stop on the way, can be as much as £150 cheaper.

Plan Your Flights Ahead

It seems obvious, but planning your flights well in advance is another good way to find cheap flights. Experienced air travellers will be aware that the airlines sell their cheapest seats first and the most expensive seats last. This method works on the assumption that someone booking a late flight is likely to accept a higher price because they are more desperate - a business man who has an important meeting for example.

Off Peak Flights

Another great piece of advice is to find out when the national holidays are in the country you are travelling to - travel prices often increase at these times. For example, in the UK the main holdiays are Easter (most schools are closed for 2 weeks), Summer holidays (schools are closed for 6 weeks from the end of August until the start of September) and of course Xmas and New Year. During these times, many families will be booking holidays, therefore travel prices will increase. Outside of the peak holiday times you will find more travel deals and in reference to air travel, more cheap flights.
